This is a memory shared by a lovely local:
I have years of memories as a child squid jigging off the Rye pier every weekend with my cousin Nigel and a huge bag of jubes in the late 70s. My squid pole was made from bamboo and Mum would drive me down as I hung onto my pole out the window.
